Counselling &
Psychotherapy in Cape Town
Individual therapy for adults, in-person and online.
Cultivating Growth and Clarity
You may be seeking a deeper understanding of yourself and your place in the world, and would like to feel more at ease. Working together in therapy offers a supportive and confidential space in which to explore your experiences. This can facilitate insight and self-compassion, and help you relate to your circumstances with greater clarity. At the heart of our work is a safe and mutually respectful therapeutic relationship.
Dr Robyn Poole
MBChB (UCT), MA Psychotherapy (UK)I am a registered general practitioner with a private practice in counselling and psychotherapy in the Foreshore area of Cape Town. My practice offers individual therapy to adults over 18 in a comfortable and private setting, including both short-term counselling and longer-term psychotherapy.
My intention is to create a collaborative environment where we can explore your experiences with curiosity and care, and find meaning together. At the core of my work is a belief in each person’s innate capacity for health and well-being, which can become more accessible under the right conditions.
I work with people navigating stress, life transitions, illness, and the wider questions that shape our lives and relationships. My approach integrates mindfulness-based and psychodynamic psychotherapy, and is adapted to each person’s circumstances.
Areas I Work With
I have experience working with people across a wide range of areas, including some of the following:
-
Stress is a natural response to situations where you feel overwhelmed and find it hard to cope. It can create tension, anxiety, and pressure, affecting relationships, work, sleep, and your overall sense of physical and emotional well-being.
In therapy, we explore patterns and experiences without judgement, allowing space to understand your responses and what supports you.
-
We all go through transitions – periods of change that can affect many aspects of life, such as career, relationships, health, or living situation. These shifts may be planned or unexpected, and often bring a complex mix of emotions and new perspectives.
Together, we can reflect on what this transition means for you. This process can support you in moving through change with greater understanding and care.
-
Living with a chronic health condition can be challenging and at times isolating. I draw on both my medical and therapeutic training in supporting people as they navigate its impact on their lives.
In therapy, there is space to explore your experience at your own pace, and to cultivate self-compassion alongside the realities you are facing.
-
Our sense of self is fluid and shaped in relationship – to others, to our past, and to the wider world around us. A sense of belonging is a fundamental human need.
Together, we can explore your identity, values, and lived experience, and consider how these have influenced the way you relate to yourself and others. This can deepen your understanding of your place in the world.
-
We are shaped by early life experiences, which continue to influence how we relate to ourselves and the world. In therapy, there is space to explore patterns, beliefs, and ways of relating, and to cultivate deeper self-awareness.
My practice is rooted in a mindfulness-based approach that supports gentle enquiry and attunement to thoughts, feelings, and bodily experience in the present moment. From here, new understanding and choices can emerge.
Roots of Resilience
We all face challenges, navigate change, and experience loss at some point in our lives. You may reach out to start therapy when you feel stuck or uncertain, or simply to understand yourself better.
I offer a grounded therapeutic relationship where there is space to reflect on what is happening in your life.
As we explore your experiences and context, you may gain a deeper sense of awareness and clarity. We work together at a pace and timing that feels right for you.
